Hi I'm new at this stuff too. What about the piece called Crucifixus? I downloaded it and it just transports me. It's so beautiful, I listen to it over and over. Unless that is included in the others mentioned earlier. I too will check out the other choices listed here. That song mentioned by Violinfreak- I dont' know if that is the same as another one I downloaded, but if it's the same one -what ViolinFreak says is absolutely true. I'm glad to have found this place.

Hi Concerto,
Also visit www.RapDogs.com, a hip hop artist and producer bulletin board.

A recorder is what kids usually learn in early elementary school, it looks like a clarinet but has just holes on the tube. Sometimes it can sound a little like a "calliope" when playing duets.

Bach used the recorder in one of his Brandenburg concertos as a featured instrument of the opening theme.

With Bach, they are all good! The Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) from the B minor Mass or the Kyrie (Lord, Have Mercy) from the same piece are great if you like to mix faith and music like I do (and like Bach did). I also second all of the suggestions by others!

One of my most favorite works by Bach is his Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor. I love it because you can get lost in it. My favorite recording of it is by Anthony Newman. Bach's A Musical Offering is also a favorite of mind. Bach genius really shows through. He took a simple litte theme and did everything to it that you could possibly do, including a six-part fugue.

The Crucifixus is one movement from the Mass in B Minor. If you like it, you'll find lots of other wonderful movements in that work. Spend a few bucks and pick up a copy - it is usually on 2 CDs. A good one is the Netherlands Chamber Choir and the Orchestra of the 18th Century under Frans Brüggen, but others will do as well. You are in for one of life's great experiences.

Also I recommend the Violin Concerto in E Major, and the Concerto for Violin and Oboe.

I'm a big fan of the French Suites and the solo Cello Suites. I love the Pierre Fournier recording of the solo cello suites.

I like of all bach, but the goldberg Variations are my favorite piece.I think they display all of the features that make bach's music so amazing. For those who are just starting to explore his music, I think the Brandenburg Concertos or the Orchestral Suites are a good choice. Don't forget the violin concertos...

Chaszz's post reminded me of something else ... but it's not Bach.
I have a CD with Heinz Holliger playing "6 Oboe Concertos" of Tomaso Albinoni - I think it's lovely and I especially like the very first Oboe concerto on the CD (Oboe Concerto in D minor, op 9, no 2)

Concerto in A minor for 4 harpsichords

I find myself playing imaginary harpsichords and conducting imaginary orchestras whenever I hear this piece. #Milti

The Concerto for Four Harpsichords is one of my all time favorite pieces ever. I dream of the day I will get to perform it.
