I am not all that familiar with bach. What are some good pieces to give a whirl. I have probably already heard them and don't even know it.

Some of the most popular are the Brandenburg Concertos, I also like the Italian Harpsichord Concerto, The Passion According to St. Matthew and Christus Lag In Todesbanden. The Goldberg Variations are great too.

Like it says in my signature...

I recommend listening to the Double Violin Concerto Vivace. It's my favorite of all of Bach's compositions. It will put you in a daze and practically hypnotize you. Have fun.

My favorite piece is Badinerie. I am pretty sure it is from a Suit in B flat major of minor. I'll have to check. That piece will just put you 300 years ago. You will be able to see what Bach probably saw: Baroque gardens, palaces, people dancing in a beautiful ballroom. This very piece is the one that got me hooked on Bach. You HAVE to listen to it!!!

Here are three good introductions to the music of J.S.Bach: the finale of the Brandenberg Concerto #2, a fast paced movement for high trumpet and chamber ensemble. The Toccato, Adagio, and Fugue for organ is powerful and exciting. His chorale prelude,"Wachet Auf" (Sleepers, Awake) is deeply moving. The stirring melody in the strings sets a mood of great peace. Then the tenors enter with their fervent entreaty. Bach is proclaiming a religious truth but that music has universal appeal.
