Since no one is replying to the other topic I think I will start another one.
What are everyone's favorite organ pieces by Bach?
Mine are the Passacaglia and Fugue in c minor, the Fantasy and Fugue in g minor, the "little" Fugue in g minor and of course, the Toccata and Fugue in d minor. |

I just started playing the organ, so I'm not overly familiar with his organ works, but my all time favorite ones to play are Toccata in D minor and Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring. _________________ "Out of my way, you butterfingered bassoonist!" --JS Bach |

Yes, the Passacaglia is the most beautiful piece of the music at all. Its great.
The d-moll Toccata is the favourite piece of the beginners, but their opinion will change, I'm sure it was with me the same.
Sorry about my question, but are there here any people from Germany?
Bye,
F. |

Boy this site is SLOOOWW!
I love all of those. I am not a beginner (fan since 1968; organist since 1982), and the Toccata in d minor will always be the best.
But there is another great Toccata: F Major S. 540.
For the Toccata by itself, it is my favorite. If you'd like to read my esoteric take on it, see
http://www.california.com/~eameece/toccata.htm
My favorite Bach organ works are:
1. Toccata and Fugue in F 540
1. tied with Toccata and Fugue in d minor 565
3. Passacaglia and Fugue in c 582
4. Fantasy and Fugue in g 542
5. Toccata and Fugue in d 538
6. Prelude and Fugue in E Flat 552
7. Prelude and Fugue in D 532
other faves include the "little" g minor 578, the "great" e minor 548, and the chorale on O Stainless Lamb of God 656. Then there's always Virgil Fox's rendition of "Come Sweet Death."
See my list of organ favorites as of a few years ago

Hello
Don't forget fugue 541 with the most incredible climactic ending. I have the complete organ works on 15 CD's played by Andre Isoir.
Also I must recommend the Trio Sonatas BWV 552 to 530.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned them.
Other than the Schubler Chorals, they are perhaps the most cheerful & melodic organ music ever written.
Holm Vogel's recording of them is the best I've heard & is perfect.

| I love BWV 540 the most! One of Bach's best work, its the "true" polyphonic music for the organ. |

hello^ mine is bwv 525 no.2 , trio sonata in Eb no.2 adagio
and bwv 672~674 : Kyrie
toccata and fugue in D minor, bwv 565 is also good, but i think it's "too polyphonic" for me
btw, i don't realy understand about the bwv 672-674, the title is Kyrie but there is nobody singing "Kyrie Eleison" in all the bwv 672~674 mp3 i found
i would like to know how to use the bwv 672~674 in a mass, is it only using organ or should be there anybody to sing?
*sorry if my english is bad^ |

| Well, since I have played all of organ piece of Bach (and I play them in a two-year cycle in my church as preludes), I've asked myself, what is the most of the most of the most? Of course, it changes from day to day, but even thinking that the many of his larger works are the most fascinating and astonishing compositions, and others smaller ones are just as impressive, I'd still say that the wonder of wonders are two of my favorites: Partita on "Sei gegrüsset" and the c-minor Fantasy (from Fantasy and Fugue in c minor, BWV 537). The Fantasy is out of this world. Every time I play it, I choke up on tears and can barely get it to the end. |
