I love Bach, even to the extent of buying the 155 CDs with all of his works, but could any one composer be the greatest? In my opinion, the greatest composers must include Mozart, Haydn, Handel, Beethoven, Schubert, Mahler. I am sure there are many more but I leave at those right now. I believe this is all opinion and can't be proved in any way. But it is fun just naming the great ones.

Let's say his performance and composition were at the height of his style, before Mozart, a Kitaro equivalent to New Age.

His organ works for example, compared to Handel, Bach was more... "original" hands down. Look at his Ciaconna in D minor , the grandness of Passacaglia in C minor. You can feel the overwhelming emotion. Surely Paganini's 24th Caprice is more "advanced" but afterall it's a Caprice. Ciaconna has a story. Out of non-historic playing, Gruimaux has mastered the Bach interpretation.
