I have lived my life in the world of painting and music. I appreciate and admire many great artists of the ages. Almost all however, I appreciate with caveats. Leonardo: magical, but his drawing style is often lacking. Beethoven: profound, yet his music can be ponderous and academic. Shakespeare: great, but he can be so vulgar.
Only Bach can I say again and again: Great! Profound! Beautiful! Wondrous! Rarely, if ever do I say "Bach is great, but..." Rythym, harmony, melody, phrasing, lyricism, and academia Bach's music, to my mind encompasses all the finest examples which art must define. I find no caveats in Bach's music, only joy. For this, I place Johann Sebastien Bach at the head of the pantheon of world artists. |

| Of course he's the ultimate artist of all time! He was modest (unlike Mozart), and his pieces are most well known especially his toccata's. Everybody knows him! I used to listen to the so-called pop' music when I was younger, then one day I started listening to Baroque music. The complex polyphony, wow it is so awesome. I'm tired of listening to monophonic music or lame monotonic music with uneven grounding notes. |

What you say is typical of a Bach fan and i know exactly what you mean and i agree! hahaha BUT art is subjective and there can't be the greatest...only great and Bach is definately a great...Bach certainly created timeless music and we don't need anyone to confirm that cause there's 256 years of bach to prove that haha |

| Exactly, and he was original, unlike many pop-style artists with the same theme about love. (Same can be said about Geminiani, but he's awesome too!) |

| I love many thousands of artists within hundreds of musical sub-genres spanning up to modern days, but I would bet that in a thousand years - 95% of my favorite artists will be forgotten. Bach will be one of the few who remain, he's one of a kind. |
