Hello all!
I dont know if I post right here, and, how I already said, my English isnt very good;) but I really would like to know: Who s your favourite interpret of the 48?
The mine is Glenn Gould! He plays GREAT, I feel that he UnDERSTANDS what hes playing, he is IN the music, and I know what he wants to tell everyone. You only can HEAR it, I cant say it(especially not in English! )
And you..? |

| I have heard Jorg Demus and Glenn Gould on piano. I would preffer Demus style more. But the most I like interpretation on clavichord by Jaroslav Tuma. I think a clavichord is the right instrument for performing of Bach' "clavier" works. Bach was fond of the clavichord and enjoyed playing it as well. |

But J.S. Bach didn't know the piano, and perhaps if he had known it, he would have prefered this instrument. Actually, bach did not give very often advice on the interpretation or even the instrument his pieces had to be played on.
What do you call "the 48" ? there are 2 books in the well tempered clavier, and each contains 24 preludes end 24 fugues... so... do you mean the prelude and fugue n° 24 of the second book ?
Whatever it is, I just know 2 version of the well tempered clavier. The first, by Glenn Gould on piano. It is excellent !!! Nothing to say about this !!! The second is by Helmut Walcha, on harpsichord... An absolutly uninteresting recording, no faults, but a very (very very...) poor interpretation. So you can imagine I vote for Glenn Gould ! |
